One of the most memorable gags in Borderlands 2 is when you and Claptrap head up to confront Handsome Jack. Your robot companion is talking up the big moment the whole way, until the moment the giant gate opens up to reveal… stairs. The one thing Claptrap’s singular wheel can’t overcome. Yet the little bot seems to have suddenly overcome his stair problem in time for Borderlands 3. The Borderlands community has been in (mostly facetious) meltdown since the discovery that Claptrap is now fully capable of rolling up stairs, as indicated by the images and videos captured on Reddit. You don’t have to wait long to see it, either – Claptrap will be inexplicably climbing stairs as soon as you get to Sanctuary. There’s some reference to stairs among the Borderlands 3 dead Claptraps. One includes a stair-climbing module that its owner forgot to turn on – or maybe our Claptrap stole the module sometime between the events of Borderlands 2 and 3.
